Tummy Tuck in Coconut Grove
Are you a new — or not so new — mom who thinks her bikini days are over? Have you lost a lot of weight only to have loose, hanging skin ruining your midsection? If you’re tired of having extra, flabby fat on your stomach, and you dream of showing off a flat, sexy stomach, tummy tuck surgery can help! Our tummy tuck procedure at Grove Plastic carefully trims the excess skin from the stomach, removes excess fat from the area and tightens the abdominal muscles, and then redrapes the tighter, tauter skin over the stomach for a trim midsection. All of this can be done through an incision hidden low on the abdomen, so you can still wear those favorite low-cut bathing suits and jeans.
Get ready to put away the frumpy sweaters and break out the tight tanks, low-cut bikini bottoms and mini dresses, Grove Plastic use you’re going to want to flaunt your new toned tummy!

Is a Tummy Tuck Right for You?
Are you considering having a tummy tuck? We would love to meet with you! In a private consultation with one of our experienced surgeons, they can help you to determine your candidacy for surgery. As a general guideline, however, a tummy tuck may be right for you if you:
- Have excess, loose skin on your abdomen from aging, pregnancy* or weight changes
- Are generally healthy, with no medical conditions
- Are not currently pregnant
- Are not planning on losing a significant amount of weight
*To address other effects of pregnancy (such as breast sag and stubborn fat bulges) along with your stomach, a tummy tuck can be combined with other body contour procedures in mommy makeover surgery. This customizable surgery is designed to help women get their pre-pregnancy body back.
The Tummy Tuck Procedure
The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, procedure takes between one and three hours to perform, depending on the needs of the patient. The surgeon will make a small incision low on the abdomen, similar to a C-section scar, just over the pubic area. From this position, the surgeon will elevate the skin off the abdomen to reveal the underlying muscles. The abdominal muscles will be tightened and pulled back together (much like a corset on the inside), and the skin will then be trimmed so that when it is redraped, it can be gently stretched taut for a leaner, flatter stomach. The belly button is then repositioned so that it sits at a higher, natural-looking point on your new, flat abdomen. After being positioned in this way, it is sutured into place, and the abdominal incision is also closed with dissolvable sutures.
Recovering from Tummy Tuck Surgery
Though certain movements, such as lifting anything over 10lbs, will be limited for the first few weeks after surgery, it is important to be out of bed and walking starting the day after surgery. These walks, performed at least once every hour, will help bring the swelling down as they stimulate body circulation. After about three to five days, you can go for short walks outside and perform normal daily activities, like bathing, light cooking and moving around the house. After seven to ten days, you will be able to walk around with less restriction and return to your daily routine.
In general, our tummy tuck patients can return to sedentary work (such as working in an office) after about two weeks. More strenuous jobs, particularly those that require lifting anything over 10lbs, can be resumed after six weeks. Heavy lifting should be avoided for about three months after surgery.
To ensure minimal scarring, we have a scar management program that we put patients on about two to three weeks following their procedure. This program, which assists scars to fade as quickly and completely as possible, is customized for your individual skin type and healing rate. Your scars should fade over the course of a year.
